Things to Do
Beaches
Galveston Island has 32 miles of shoreline. Along its beaches are parks and restaurants and something for everyone. There is fishing, swimming, surfing and kayaking and while you’re enjoying the beach stop by the Pleasure Pier right on the Gulf of Mexico. If you want to spend the day at the beach, Stewart Beach has showers, restrooms and plenty of things to do. Don’t forget to stop and have lunch at one of the many restaurants along the Seawall and pick up a souvenir at one of the beach shops.
Family
There are so many different things to do for families on the Island; Moody Gardens is always a special treat. Or take a ferry ride to Bolivar Peninsula. Of course, there is fishing, swimming, surfing and kayaking and while you’re enjoying the beach stop by the Pleasure Pier right on the Gulf of Mexico
Fishing
If you love to fish there are charters available for offshore and inshore fishing.
Nature
If you love shore birds and migrant birds, you will see both here especially on Galveston’s West End.
Nightlife
There is no better way to unwind after a fun day exploring beaches, shops and more than with a cool drink, and there are hot spots all over the Island depending on your taste. The Seawall and the Strand offer many options along with cool joints on the East and West End of the Island.
Shopping
The Strand downtown is excellent for shopping. It’s a real treat to walk in and out of the beautiful shops and many art galleries. There are festivals and live concerts and music throughout the year at many locations, fun times no matter what you like, Galveston has it.
History
Galveston’s Pelican Island, is a former immigration station site, features the USS CAVALLA World War II submarine and the USS STEWART, one of only three surviving destroyer escorts, both available for tours.
Annual Events
With a rich culture of entertainment, you can count on Galveston Island hosting multitude of special events throughout the year. Some of them include: the Chili Quest & Beer Fest in January, Mardi Gras! in February, Texas Adopt-A-Beach Clean Up in April, AIA Sandcastle Competition in June, Galveston ArtWalk in August, the Lone Star Motorcycle Rally in November, and Dickens on The Strand in December. Plus, each month you can enjoy Movie Nite on the Strand (first Saturday), Music Nite on the Strand (second Saturday), and Market on Mechanic (third Saturday).
